Overview

Before you start

  • Read the supplied directions first. For a dried nest, follow them for soaking, inspection, cleaning and cooking; do not repeat those steps for a ready-to-use product.
  • Use clean drinking water and a covered container in the refrigerator at 40°F / 4°C or below when soaking is required. Follow the product directions for replacing and discarding the soaking water.
  • Discard damaged or clearly spoiled product. Heating is not a way to make spoiled food safe.

Bird's nest and pear dessert soup

Begin with bird's nest that has been fully soaked, inspected and cleaned, or is supplied ready to cook.

What you need

  • Ready-to-cook bird's nest, prepared as directed
  • Clean water
  • Peeled pear pieces
  • A small amount of rock sugar, optional

Simple method

  1. Place the water and pear in a clean pot and bring to a gentle simmer.
  2. Add the prepared bird's nest and cook according to the supplied product directions.
  3. When the nest is fully cooked, sweeten lightly if desired and serve hot.

Edible bird's nest is an animal-derived food and can cause an allergic reaction in some people. Check the actual package and do not serve it to someone with a known reaction to the product.

Safe handling

  • Use clean hands, utensils, water and containers throughout soaking and preparation.
  • Keep soaked nest refrigerated until cooking, and cook it as directed by its supplied instructions.
  • Refrigerate leftovers in shallow covered containers within 2 hours, or within 1 hour when the temperature is above 90°F / 32°C.
  • Use refrigerated leftovers within 3 to 4 days and reheat them to 165°F / 74°C.
